Wow man it’s about to be a year birthday for Daniela. You’re an old man now! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
It was a ****ing blizzard yesterday and our neighborhood remains an Arctic warzone. This is really a nowhere block. Our street has not been plowed and has been impassable for about a day and a half. Relief nowhere in sight, it’s 25 degrees with 30 MPH wind - ski mask weather. All the snow blew in such a way that none of it accumulated on Nami’s car. Rather hilariously since some drifts are 15+ feet and cover entire trucks and large architectural features. Snow is blown every which way and it’s like 25 degrees and everything is covered. So I focused on digging the building out, with a guy named Jaime, from Puebla. He’s next door: two floors beneath me and one building over. He was digging out the building next door and I asked to borrow the shovel and then suddenly as a team we dug out the last two buildings on the block, the stoops, the sidewalk, and out into the street. I gave him a ham at the end for helping supply the shovel and salt and for doing more than his fair share of shoveling. He was one of those magic glinty-eyed and toothed mexicans wearing sunglasses like it ain’t no thang, Snowmaggeddon, and being burly as fuck that they have around on my bloque. I am working on opening a restaurant in Williamsburg and at the meeting this chef dropped by with a bunch of hams. We have almost finished one, and so I am sick of ham. “Para su familia,” I said to Jaime. Somewhat hilariously, it seemed, from my viewpoint.
